Değirmendere

Değirmendere is a municipal town in Kocaeli of Turkey. Although there are other towns in Turkey under the name of Degirmendere, this particular one is located on the south coast of Izmit Bay. The quarters of Değirmendere are named as Yuzbasilar, Yukari Degirmendere and Kurucesme. Degirmendere lies between Gölcük and Halidere. Degirmendere was the epicenter of the 1999 Marmara Earthquake, which almost wiped out the town and the neighboring towns. Degirmendere is well known for its hazelnuts, sweet cherry and public cultural activities.
