It is run by the Sisters of St. Dominic. It is a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. It was founded in 1923. It gives girls the chance to grow and be themselves in an all-girl environment. The college preparatory curriculum offers 10 AP courses and curriculum for all grade levels.

Funding
The Elms has received a donation of $6 million from Ann Amer Brennan, who graduated from the Elms in 1951, and her husband, David Brennan. Lisa Holland Toth and Lynn Holland Gorman, both of whom attended the Elms, donated $1 million. The donations are being used to renovate the existing theater, change the existing gym into a performing arts center, and add on a complete gym. The project is going to be green, and meet LEED specifications. The project is designed by Doty and Miller Architects and constructed by Regency Construction.
Clubs and activities
The school's Latin Club functions as a local chapter of both the Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL)[2] and National Junior Classical League (NJCL).[3]
