"Point #1" is the debut album of Chevelle. It is also the only Chevelle album under Squint Entertainment. The album produced a notable single in its title track. "Point #1" can still be occasionally heard on radio stations, although not nearly as much as future releases. As of 2003 the album's instrumental first track, "Open," was still performed in concert. However, after the fact of legal issues costing the band the ability to use #1 in a song or perform it live, Chevelle still performs "some of the old stuff",(such as Prove to You and SMA) as frontman Pete Loeffler refers to it.

When "Point #1" was released, and still today, many fans have compared Chevelle to the successful alternative metal band Tool. One comparison includes Pete Loeffler's vocals which, like Maynard James Keenan, would go from soft and melodic to brutal and gut-wrenching in seconds. Another comparison is in the video for "Mia" which, like some of Tool's videos, was completely stop motion animated.
