Type 210 100 mm naval gun

Type 210 100 mm naval gun

The Type 210 automatic single 100 mm naval gun is the Chinese modification of the Compact model of the French 100 mm naval gun. There are at least two versions known in existence, and the characteristic for both are extremely similar to that of the French 100 mm naval gun.

Type 210

Chinese engineers discovered that the western gun was not compatible with Soviet and Chinese electronics, so the shipborne electronics such as radars and combat data systems must be modified. However, it is very inefficient to modify every electronic gear on board to fit the gun, and it is much better to modify the gun to fit everything else on board, such as radars and combat data systems. Another shortcoming of the French gun was that it lacked the capability to fire precision guided projectiles such as laser guided and infrared guided rounds.

Orders were given to solve these shortcomings and the result was the Type 210 automatic single 100 mm naval gun. In addition to be compatible with both Western and Soviet electronics, the magazine is drastically changed in comparison to the original French gun in order to fire the laser and infrared guided projectiles. However, due to the need to exchange between different type of rounds, the maximum rate of fire is greatly reduced due to times needed to select the different rounds, though the maximum rate of fire of 90 rounds per minute is maintained when firing a single type unguided round.

Type H/PJ87

H/PJ87 100 mm naval gun is a further development of the Type 210 100 mm naval gun. The most obvious external difference between the two is that Type HPJ87 has adopted a new turret with stealthy design, and this new gun mount with stealthy feature is replacing all other large calibres on board Chinese warships in the frontline.
