Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 24 (CCL24) is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family that is also known as Myeloid progenitor inhibitory factor 2 (MPIF-2) and Eosinophil chemotactic protein 2 (Eotaxin-2). CCL24 interacts with chemokine receptor CCR3 to induce chemotaxis in eosinophils. [White et al. Cloning and functional characterization of a novel human CC chemokine that binds to the CCR3 receptor and activates human eosinophils. J. Leukoc. Biol. 62:667-675, 1997.] This chemokine is also strongly chemotactic for resting T lymphocytes and slightly chemotactic for neutrophils. [Patel et al. Molecular and functional characterization of two novel human C-C chemokines as inhibitors of two distinct classes of myeloid progenitors. J. Exp. Med. 185: 1163-1172, 1997.] The gene for CCL24 is located on human chromosome 7. [Hillier et al. The DNA sequence of human chromosome 7. Nature 424:157-164, 2003.]
