Peel Regional Road 16

Peel Regional Road 16

Peel Regional Road 16, or Kennedy Road is a major and local throughfare in Dufferin County, Ontario and Peel Region, Ontario (Mississauga, Ontario and Brampton, Ontario).

The road in Peel is named after former Premier of Ontario Thomas Laird Kennedy, where his family once lived.

The street is often confused with Kennedy Road in Toronto, Ontario and York Region as both roads intersect with Steeles Avenue.

Mississauga

The road begins at Eglinton Avenue East. This was the former Base Line, and Kennedy Road was originally called First Line E.H.S. (East of Hurontario Street). South of Eglinton, it is Central Parkway East, an arterial road constructed in the 1960s. Kennedy Road is a residential road until it reaches Matheson Blvd East. North of Matheson, to Highway 407 the road is a mix commercial and industrial business. A list of business along this section include:

* Lindt Canada
* The Brick
* The Shopping Channel

It is also the location of the Hershey Centre arena and conference centre.

Brampton

From Highway 407 to Steeles Avenue, the address numbers continue from Mississauga (ending at No# 8000), but north of Steeles the road becomes Kennedy Road South, with numbers decreasing northwards to #1 at Queen Street. From Queen north to Bovaird Drive the road is Kennedy Road North, where the numbers increase northwards until Bovaird, where the original numbering pattern resumes at No# 10,000. The section between Queen and Bovaird was the original Brampton By-pass of Highway 7, along with Bovaird from Kennedy to Main Street North / Hurontario Street.

The Powerade Centre is located at 7575 Kennedy Road.

Caledon

The road resumes as Kennedy Road in Caledon and into Dufferin County. It ends at Highway 9 south of Island Lake in Orangeville, Ontario.

The road loses its Peel Regional Road identity at the intersection with Peel Regional Road 107 / Bovaird Drive.
