Lanivet is a village and
civil parish in theNorth Cornwall district ofCornwall ,England ,United Kingdom .The main village is 2½ miles south-west ofBodmin .The parish includes the hamlets of Bodwanick,
Bokiddick , Lamorick, St Inganger, Trebell, Tregullon, Tremoore, and Woodly, part of St Lawrance is also in this parish.In the church are monuments of the
Courtenays of Tremere . In the churchyard are two ancient stone crosses and a rare example of a Hogback grave dating from theViking times. About a quarter of a mile from the church are the remains of St. Benet's, a monastery of theBenedictine order, said to have been subordinate toMonte Cassino , in Italy, or according to others,Clairvaux in Burgundy.St Congar, in the parish, is said to have been the residence of the
hermit , SaintCongar of Congresbury , in the early6th century .Thomas Hardy connection
Thomas Hardy came to Lanivet in August, 1872, to visit the home of Emma Gifford where he was introduced to her parents at Kirland House. He wrote a poem in the same year entitled "Near Lanivet". ["Thomas Hardy - A Biography Revisited - Page 131" By Michael Millgate]
