- Ehud Shapiro
Ehud Shapiro ( _he. אהוד שפירא; born
1955 ) is an Israelicomputer scientist . He received his Ph.D fromYale for his dissertation entitled "Algorithmic Program Debugging" which was an ACM distinguished dissertation for 1982. He has been an exponent of theProlog computer language andlogic programming in general. In recent years, he has worked on developing a DNA-based computer. His research group produced one capable of diagnosingcancer in cells and releasing drug molecules in response. In the 2004 "Scientific American " 50", he was named Research Leader in Nanotechnology. The team's computer simulations accurately predict age of onset and the way the disease will progress in an individual, based on the number of repeats of a geneticmutation . [News Release, Weizmann Institute of Science, "Scientists at the Weizmann Institute, using computer simulations, have provided an explanation as to why certain genetic diseases caused by repeats in the code are “genetic time-bombs” whose onset and progression can be accurately predicted," November 21, 2007, at http://80.70.129.162/site/en/weizman.asp?pi=371&doc_id=5042.
