Bcl-2 homologous antagonist killer
- Bcl-2 homologous antagonist killer
The Bcl-2 homologous antagonist/killer (BAK) protein is a pro-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2 gene family which is involved in initiating apoptosis. It has a relative molecular weight of 23,400 and contain 211-amino acids. Dysregulation of the BAK gene has been implicated in human gastrointestinal cancers, indicating that the gene plays a part in the pathogenesis of some cancers[cite journal | author=Qiang-Song Tong, "et al."| title=BAK overexpression mediates p53-independent apoptosis inducing effects on human gastric cancer cells| journal=BMC Cancer| year=2004| volume=4| issue=33| url=http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2407/4/33| doi=10.1186/1471-2407-4-33| pages=33] .] See also
