labour union organizer, who represented the Sudbury,Ontario riding of Nickel Belt from 1998 to 1999 in theLegislative Assembly of Ontario . He was a member of theOntario New Democratic Party .Morin replaced
Floyd Laughren , who retired in 1998. He was elected to the legislature in aby-election onOctober 1 ,1998 , defeating Progressive Conservative candidate Gerry Courtemanche by 1,364 votes. However, in 1999, the provincial ridings of Nickel Belt andSudbury East were merged for the 1999 provincial election, and Morin declined to run for the NDP nomination rather than competing against Sudbury East's popular incumbentShelley Martel . There was some consideration that he might run for the NDP nomination in the neighbouring riding ofAlgoma—Manitoulin , but this came to nothing.Before entering elected politics, Morin was on the executive of the
Canadian Union of Public Employees . He subsequently worked for theOntario Federation of Labour .Electoral record
