T. N. Kaul (1913-2000) has been one of
India 's foremostdiplomat s and strategic studies experts.Born in 1913 in Baramulla,
Kashmir , and educated at the universities of Punjab, Allahabad and London, he had an illustrious career in theIndian Foreign Service , which he joined in 1936. He has rendered highly distinguished service to theGovernment of India as anAmbassador to the erstwhileSoviet Union , U.S.,China ,Iran , DeputyHigh Commissioner to theUK , and later asForeign Secretary to theIndia nMinistry of External Affairs . He was also the Vice-Chairman of the Indian unit of theUnited Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO ) and Chairman of theIndian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR ).Besides his diplomatic career, he has also been a much sought after foreign policy expert, and has lectured widely on international peace and security issues at various universities all over the world. During his lifetime, he has been almost an authority figure in
India in Chinese, American,Pakistan i, and Indian foreign policy related issues.He has also authored a number of books. Some of the books authored by him were:
