University of Utah employs an eagle named Swoop as its mascot at basketball and baseball games. The University of Utah introduced this mascot in 1987, with permission from the Ute Tribal Council. Swoop, represents the eagle, a bird indigenous to the state of Utah.Swoop is also the mascot for the Emory Eagles athletic program. He routinely makes appearances at basketball and soccer games. However, he is not well-respected by the university student-body, who consider Dooley -- the skeletal embodiment of Emory's "school spirit" -- to be the true mascot.
