The Noosa Triathlon is an annual Triathlon held in Noosa, in the Australian state of Queensland, since 1983. It is Australia’s largest, oldest, and highest profile triathlon event. It is the third largest Olympic distance triathlon in the world, after the London, Hamburg and Chicago Triathlons.[citation needed]

History
The event was conceived in 1983 and has developed into a multi-sport and entertainment Festival. In 2007, more than 7,500 competitors and 40,000 spectators attended the Festival swelling Noosa’s visitor numbers to approximately 50,000 people.[citation needed]. The Noosa triathlon is one of the oldest in Australia ( The oldest being the Nepean Triathlon held in Western Sydney)
The 2008 Noosa Triathlon sold out in record time.[citation needed]
