Plot

This episode picks up where the previous one left off. Ryan brings a beaten-up Volchok to the hospital. Volchok threatens to press charges against Ryan for fighting him if he does not assist him in his illegal ventures. Theresa visits Ryan and tells him that she can't be with him because she needs someone who doesn't get into fights.

Marissa takes a trip to visit her sister Kaitlin at her boarding school. There she meets Trevor Knightley, the great-great-great grandson of the school's founder. This 17-year-old, who is also captain of the Lacrosse team, hides his nasty behavior from the school staff, behavior that got Kaitlin in trouble again and may lead to her being expelled. Wanting to help her sister, Marissa plots revenge. The caper goes off, the sisters bond, and Marissa heads home.

Ryan tags along with Volchok for a shady escapade, unsure of what the exact intention is. When it becomes evident that they are about to steal a car Ryan runs off as Volchok takes off with a police car right on his tail. Ryan calls Marissa and she agrees to be his alibi for the evening without questioning what actually happened.

Meanwhile Sandy is named Man of the Year, but privately he is dealing with some problems that may effect his family even more as he learns that he is under investigation. Sandy finds out about Seth smoking pot and his university troubles. Seth then spills the beans that Kirsten is drinking again. Sandy's big night arrives with the family attempting to keep their private struggles under wraps. Seth is sent on an errand to the office to pick up a sketch. While there he begins smoking a joint, sitting it on the desk to take a phone call from his mother. He then grabs the sketch and returns to the party, leaving the joint in the perfect position to fall into a full trash can that smokes and then sets the office building on fire. Back at the party, the DA (?) arrives leaving Sandy and Kirsten to wonder if he'll be leaving the party in handcuffs. Seeming resigned he heads off to practice his speech. Taking the podium, Sandy announces that he is stepping down from his position to peruse something closer to his heart, being a husband and father.

Two uniformed police officers enter the room seeming to confirm their fears that Sandy is about to be arrested. Marissa and Ryan pull up in the parking and spot the two cop cars with their lights running. Ryan says that they are there for him, but Marissa counters that it won't matter since he was with her all evening. They are shocked to see the police officers emerge from the front doors with Seth in custody. When Ryan asks Sandy what happened, he explains that there was a fire at the office and they believe that Seth is responsible.

Trivia

* Marissa poses as a foreign exchange student at Katlin's boarding school from London. This is a tongue-in-cheek reference to actress Mischa Barton, who is originally from London although she moved to the United States at the age of 4.

* This is the final appearance of Theresa Diaz (Navi Rawat).

* When Marissa arrives at Kaitlin's dorm room her roommate answers the door. She is talking on the phone with her father, the creator of the fictional 'The Valley' TV show. She states "Well what do you expect when you use the same love triangle for three seasons?" She then continues with "Dad I told you not to go on the message boards!" This was a nod to the various repeating love triangles throughout the show Ryan / Marissa / Other.
