Chang'an Ford Automobile Co., Ltd. is a joint venture between Ford Motor Company and Chang'an Motors in Chongqing, China.
The company produced 20,000 Ford Fiestas in 2003 and will build the Mondeo and Escape-based Maverick SUV. Production is based around so-called knockdown kits, partially assembled vehicles imported to meet local assembly regulations. Ford hoped to increase capacity to 50,000 vehicles in 2004 and 150,000 soon after.
On April 20, 2005, Ford and Mazda announced a new engine factory in Nanjing, China, with Chang'an. Production was to start in 2007.
On April 4, 2006, Mazda purchased 15% of Chang'an Ford from Ford to strengthen its ties with the manufacturer.
