- Abbey Road DLR station
Abbey Road DLR station, by 2010, will become a new
Docklands Light Railway station in Newham, EastLondon . It is part of the extension of the Docklands Light Railway over part of theNorth London Line between Stratford andWoolwich .The area between
Canning Town and Stratford has been identified for major regeneration and new development. The Lower Lea Valley master plan anticipates over 10,000 new homes and jobs. The Stratford City development for the Stratford rail lands will also provide homes and approximately 30,000 new jobs.As part of the proposed (and now approved) extension, the now closed North London Line platforms at Canning Town, West Ham and the existing platforms at Stratford will be upgraded to DLR specifications. A third platform will also be added at Royal Victoria.
Four new DLR stations will be built at Stratford International, Stratford High Street, Abbey Road and Star Lane. All stations will be fully accessible for mobility-impaired persons.
This station is proposed to consist of side platforms to the north of Abbey Road. The station main access point would be from Abbey Road at bridge level, with another access at ground level from Bakers Row.
This extension is in anticipation of the
2012 Olympic Games , whichLondon is hosting, and is part of the regeneration in this region of East London. The street that it will serve should not be confused with the Abbey Road made famous byThe Beatles , which is inSt John's Wood .
