Walter C. Young

Walter C. Young is an American politician and educator. He was born in New York City on March 2 1923. He was a founding member of Pembroke Pines, Florida and the state representative for Broward County for 20 years. He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1972 and quickly made his mark on the state’s education industry. He was known in the 1980s as Florida's “Mr. Education” and was very involved in the state’s environment. Due to his efforts for the city of Pembroke Pines, the community named their middle school after him. Walter C. Young Middle School and Resource Center opened its doors in early 1991. After retiring from politics in 1992 he now is a lobbyist for AARP’s Florida branch and was even offered a chairmanship post in 1998.
