USS Walter X. Young (DE-723)
- USS Walter X. Young (DE-723)
On 7 February 1944, the name "Walter X. Young" was approved for DE-723, a "Rudderow"-class destroyer escort slated to be built by the Dravo Corporation, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. However, before work on the ship began, the contract for her construction was cancelled on 12 March 1944 in order to free the Dravo yard for the building of landing craft.
Subsequently, another vessel was named "Walter X. Young", originally DE-715, later re-designated APD-131, which was launched on 30 September 1944, at the Defoe Shipbuilding Company in Bay City, Michigan.
