Hornby Castle overlooks the village of Hornby and the River Wenning in the Lune Valley, Lancashire, gbmapping|SD587687.
The base of its octagonal tower dates from the 12th or 13th century but most of its structure dates from the 16th century. The castle was held by Hubert de Burgh, 1st Earl of Kent until 13 November 1232, so presumably he was responsible for founding the fortress.
It has been much modified over the years, particularly in the 19th century. It is now an imposing private residence.
There is also an ancient castle site, Castle Stede, to the north of the village on the banks of the River Lune.
