Cat Country

Cat Country

Cat Country is a country music brand name used for a variety of radio stations in numerous broadcast markets in the United States. Although the cat logo or a cat claw is shared among these stations, most of these radio stations are not associated with each other. That being said, the "Cat Country" branding is particularly common among country stations currently or formerly owned by Citadel Broadcasting.

General Theme

The Cat Country branded radio station uses jargon that usually refers to a cat (or a tiger), such as where the cat lives (in a house), what noise a cat makes (roar or meow), and other words that are related to cats.

Examples of the "Cat Country" theme use words like the following:
* "In The Litterbox"
* "Cat Food"
** from Cat Country 106.3 in Indiana, referring to "Bobcatville" for "Blairsville"
** from Cat Country 106.3 in Indiana, referring to "Cat Line" for "Help Line"
* "Forecat Cast" for weather forecasts
* "Cat, Tiger Stripes, Kittentine, for the names of the DJs.
* "Local Catppenings" for local happenings
* An occasional "roar or meow" between questionable lyric songs (like "kiss my ass" from the live version of "Friends in Low Places" by Garth Brooks. Cat Country 106.3 in Indiana translates this lyic to "and you can kiss me now".)
* "Fe-line" referring to the request line

The variations on the logo include the radio station's frequency or whether they are referred to as "Cat Country", "Big Cat", or "Catland".

Sometimes, the C in "Cat" is replaced with a K, thus creating an alternate name, "Kat Country". WKKT, a radio station in Charlotte, North Carolina (whose sports team names, the Panthers and Bobcats, are derived from felines themselves), uses this variant in its branding.
