History
The Beginning
Punch People was formed in the fall of 2001. Neil Bernard and Rock Whittington were childhood friends, both attending the same schools throughout high school. Danny Bourgeois and Neil Bernard were in a band (Feed-Lu) prior to Punch People, while Rock Whittington was out of state for a short time before returning to join the two in 2001. In 2002 the band finished recording their first self-produced album/demo "Self Titled". The 9 song demo was a mixture of songs written from prior band (Feed-Lu) and a few recently created at the time.[citation needed]
Smash Crusher
In the spring of 2003, the band returned to the studio to record their second self-produced album "Smash Crusher". Smash Crusher was a nominee for best local album of the year by OffBeat magazine. The album was top of the Virgin Megastore charts for 3 weeks after their release.[citation needed] "Old Mexis" made airplay on a local rock station, whom very rarely promoted local music. Their album release and stage presence in 2003 honored them an award for best new local rock band by local magazine "offBeat". They were also invited to play at the 2003 New Orleans Music Awards.
The Break Up
The band was forced out of recording their third self-produced album in 2005, due to the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. The band evacuated a short while to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Shreveport, Louisiana before dismembering in 2006 due to personal reasons. All three have moved on to new projects. Danny Bourgeois is currently working on a post Punch People solo project, while touring with New Orleans own Bonerama. Neil Bernard has reunited with former Feed-Lu guitarist, Dave Latino in a local band Slang Angus. Rock Whittington joined Buffalo, New York based band, Damiera.
