Francisco Queriol Conde Júnior, aka Chiquinho Conde (born 22 November 1965), is a retired Mozambican footballer who played as a striker.

Most of his extensive professional career was spent in Portugal, mainly for Vitória Futebol Clube, with a brief spell in 1997 in the United States.

Football career

Born in Beira, Conde arrived in Portugal in the 1987 summer, from Clube de Desportos do Maxaquene, and would remain in the country for the following decade, starting with C.F. Os Belenenses; after good spells at Sporting de Braga and Vitória de Setúbal, he signed with Sporting Clube de Portugal, but failed to reproduce his previous form, returning to Belenenses in January 1996.

Aged already 31, Conde moved to the recent Major League Soccer, where he played for the New England Revolution and the Tampa Bay Mutiny. In January 1998, he returned to Portugal and a former club, Vitória Setúbal (for his third spell); in his first full season upon his return to the team, he netted a career-best 14 goals, as the sadinos qualified for the UEFA Cup, as fifth.

After spells at F.C. Alverca and Portimonense SC, Conde eventually retired in 2004, after playing amateur football in the country. He represented Mozambique during 16 years, appearing at the 1986 and the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, with the national team finishing bottom of the group in the latter. He is regarded as one of the best players the country ever produced, alongside Dário and Tico-Tico.[1]
