He was born in Königsberg.
Kinder competed for the United Team of Germany in the 4 x 400 metre relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy, where he won the silver medal with his team mates Joachim Reske, Johannes Kaiser and Carl Kaufmann.
Eight years later he competed for West Germany in the 1968 Summer Olympics held in Mexico City, Mexico in the 4 x 400 metre relay where he won the bronze medal with his team mates Helmar Müller, Gerhard Hennige and Martin Jellinghaus.
