Gerhard Hennige (born
23 September 1940 inKarlsruhe ) is a former German track and field athlete and Olympic medal winner, among the world's best at the400 meter hurdles from 1966 to 1971.At the
1968 Summer Olympics inMexico City , he won two medals forWest Germany . One was silver in his specialty, in a time of 49.0 seconds). He also ran the second leg on the bronze winning4 x 400 metres relay team (along withHelmar Müller ,Manfred Kinder andMartin Jellinghaus ).Hennige was also part of the 4x400 team that came in third at the European Championship in 1971, running the third leg and teamed with
Horst-Rüdiger Schlöske ,Ingo Röper and Jellinghaus.In the 1990s, he served as the conditioning coach for
Formula One racerMichael Schumacher . After receiving an advanced degree in 2004, Hennige has been a lecturer in Sports Science at theDarmstadt University of Technology .External links
