Spencerville is a small rural community located in
Eastern Ontario , about 30 minutes south ofOttawa on Highway 416. It falls within the municipality of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal in Leeds and Grenville United Counties.Three churches are found in the community: Spencerville United Church, St. Laurence O'Toole Catholic Church, and St. John's Presbyterian Church. There is also an elementary school with students from Grades 4 to 8 called Centennial '67 Public School. The surrounding countryside is mainly agricultural (dairy, beef, poultry, and swine). Spencerville holds the annual
Spencerville Fair and a new Highland Games.Spencerville is also home to the Spencerville Mill, an old grist mill on the
South Nation River . Spencerville, with only one main intersection, has a public library, a Canada Post outlet, a garden store, two restaurants, two general stores, one gas bar with an LCBO inside, a Home Hardware, a woodstove store, an antiques store, an insurance company and a funeral home.Spencerville also has an arena that hosts junior league hockey tournaments from across Ontario, and also offers public skating. This arena and surrounding buildings was built by the George Drummond family, of Drummond's gas franchises.
