Austin Eli Wing (
February 3 ,1792 –August 27 ,1849 ) was a delegate toU.S. Congress fromMichigan Territory before it became the state ofMichigan .Wing was born in
Conway, Massachusetts and in early youth moved with his parents toMarietta, Ohio . He attended common schools and the academy at Chillicothe andAthens College ,Ohio graduating fromWilliams College ,Williamstown, Massachusetts in 1814.He later moved to
Detroit , where he was elected to the Nineteenth and Twentieth Congresses, serving fromMarch 4 ,1825 toMarch 3 ,1829 . He then moved to Monroe where he was elected to the Twenty-second Congress, serving fromMarch 4 ,1831 toMarch 3 ,1833 . Wing later joined the Whig Party after its formation and became a member of theMichigan House of Representatives in 1842. He served as a member of the board of regents of theUniversity of Michigan from 1845 until 1849 and was appointed United States Marshal for the district of Michigan onFebruary 24 ,1846 and served until 1849.Austin Eli Wing died in
Cleveland, Ohio and was interred in Woodlawn Cemetery inMonroe, Michigan .References
