Eurovision Song Contest 1956 - the only Contest where competing countries were permitted to enter two songs - performed in Dutch byCorry Brokken .The song is in the "chanson" style popular in the early years of the Contest. Brokken sings to a former lover, asking him why their relationship is "over for good". She explains that while it may have only been a brief fling to him, she took it more seriously.
The song was performed eighth on the night (following
Italy 'sFranca Raimondi with "Aprite le finestre " and precedingSwitzerland 'sLys Assia with "Refrain"). As the scoreboard of this Contest has never been made public, no definitive statement can be made about its success or lack thereof, however the song is known not to have won.It was succeeded as Dutch representative at the 1957 Contest by Brokken again, this time singing "
Net Als Toen ".References
