Nihongo|Fūko Kirisawa|霧沢風子|Kirisawa Fūko is a fictional character from the anime/manga Flame of Recca. She is a tomboyish girl and is Recca Hanabishi's childhood friend.cite book |last= Nobuyuki|first= Anzai|title= Flame of Recca Volume 01|chapter= Chapter 004|publisher= Shogakukan] She is known for wielding the madōgu Fūjin, which enables her to manipulate the element of wind. Her voice is provided by Akiko Hiramatsu in the Japanese version of the series and Kris Rundle in the Viz Media English dub.

Profile

Fūko first appears in the series as one of Recca's rivals who wish to defeat Recca so that he would serve her as her loyal ninja. Due to her inability to defeat Recca, she accepts the Fūjin when Kage Hōshi (Kagerō) offers it to her after showing her its powers. Fūko is then placed under Kage Hōshi's control due to a stone that the latter implanted into the Fūjin. Recca successfully destroys the stone, freeing Fūko from the mind control.

In an extra chapter included in volume 7 of the Flame of Recca manga, it is shown that Fūko was a loner for most of her life in junior high school, and this began to make her think that making friends and getting close to people would make her weak, and that she must fight and defeat other people in order to prove her own strength. However, she is befriended by a girl named Maya Kishu, and it is through this friendship that she realizes that beating people up and making enemies does not make one stronger.

Characteristics

Fūko is often seen as tomboyish by other characters, and is often laughed at or teased when she shows says something sensitive or feminine. Fūko's character design varies in the adaptations of the series. While she has brown hair and green eyes in the manga and both of the Flame of Recca video games, she has red violet hair and blue eyes in the anime series.

Fūjin

The Fūjin is a gauntlet-like madōgu that gives its user the ability to manipulate the element of wind and utilize it in battles. It has five small stones (four in the anime series), with a large central stone that serves as the main source of Fūjin's power. The central stone serves as the "body" of the spirit that resides within it (also called Fūjin). The spirit manifests itself as a small fox-like sprite that speaks and considers the wielder of Fūjin to be its master.

Techniques

: "Kamaitachi" is a technique wherein the Fūjin focuses wind into a blade-like form that cuts anything in its path.

: "Hayate" utilizes wind to deliver several slashing/cutting strikes.

: The Fūjin's spirit manifests itself and transforms into a ball that has been described as being made of "solid" wind. This ball, when hurled at an opponent, delivers a considerable amount of damage.

: In this tehcnique, Fūko combines the madōgu, "Oni no Tsume", with the Fūjin by mounting the "Oni no Tsume"'s central stone in depression created to house the Fūjin's central stone. This makes three long claws made of wind to emerge from the top edge of the Fūjin.
