Line of succession to the French throne (Legitimist)

Line of succession to the French throne (Legitimist)

The Legitimist pretender to the French throne is Louis Alphonse, Duke of Anjou, the senior member of the House of Bourbon. He is recognised by those French monarchists who consider Philip V of Spain's renunciation of his rights of succession to the throne of France as null and void.

The Legitimist succession to the French throne includes all living males who are descended in the male line from Hugh Capet through legal marriages.
* Morganatic marriages do not exist as regards the succession to the French throne. Thus, Adrian and Gregory de Bourbon, the two sons of Gaëtano, Prince of the Blood, Prince of the Two Sicilies, are included in the line of succession.
* Only marriages which conform with the canon law of the Catholic Church are recognised for purposes of the succession. Thus the two sons of Prince Eudes of Orléans-Braganza and Mercedes Neves da Rocha who have a civil marriage, but are not married according to the canon law of the Catholic Church (since Prince Eudes is still married canonically to Ana Maria de Moraes e Barros, his marriage having only been civilly dissolved by divorce), are not included in the line of succession. Eudo junior and Guy are illegitimate according to the canon law of the Catholic Church, even though they are legitimate according to the civil law of Brazil.
* If a son is born to unmarried parents who subsequently marry, this does not make him eligible for succession to the French throne. Thus, the first child of the Duke of Noto (born when his parents were unmarried) is not in the line of succession, but his two younger brothers (born after the marriage of their parents) are.

According to Legitimist usage, dynasts who are French nationals are accorded the style "Prince of the Blood" (prince du sang)

Descendants in the male line of Philip V of Spain are numbers 1 to 75; descendants in the male line of Philippe I, Duke of Orléans are numbers 76 to 120. It should be noted that all those listed below are actually descendants of Henri IV and Louis XIII as following the death of Louis VI Henry, the last Prince of Condé, in 1830 no other lines of descent from Hugh Capet continued to exist.
