Jamil Sakr

His Excellency Jamil Sakr (1948-) is a Syrian diplomatic figure. He is currently the Syrian Ambassador to Ottawa, Canada.

Background

Sakr studied at Damascus University. He has served as a diplomat since 1980, and has fulfilled a wide number of postings.

Sakr was appointed Syrian Ambassador to Ottawa in 2005. While his appointment came following a period when Syrian-Canadian relations were being upgraded and expanded, relations between Syria and Canada are longstanding, particularly through the well-established Syrian community in Canada.
