Oxfordshire village andcivil parish near Islip and north-east ofOxford ,England .There was a Romano-
Celt ic temple here, and probably aRomano-British settlement and shrine too.There was originally a Saxon church here. Richard Taverner, the 16th-century bible translator, is buried in the churchyard.
James Sadler, the first English balloonist, landed near the village after his first ascent from
Christ Church Meadow in Oxford on 4 October 1784, travelling a distance of some six miles and reaching a height of about 3,600 feet.Woodeaton Manor is located here and there is a
quarry to the north-west, which is a good site forfossil s.Woodeaton Wood is around a kilometer to the south-east, on the south-west side of Drun's Hill. The village of Noke is 1.5 km north-east, past Prattle Wood.
