At just over 1 mile (1.6 km) in length, State Route 238 has its southern terminus at the U.S. Route 62/State Route 3 duplex less than 1 mile (1.6 km) southeast of Bloomingburg. Its northern terminus is at State Route 38 in the downtown of the Fayette County village.
Designated in the mid 1920s and located in the northeastern quadrant of Fayette County, State Route 238 essentially serves as a cutoff route between the U.S. Route 62/State Route 3 duplex and State Route 38, as the two routes run generally in parallel with one another at a separation of about 1 mile (1.6 km) for a distance of approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) between Washington Court House and Bloomingburg. This route provides a connection for the parallel state-maintained roadways at the northeastern end of the run in parallel.

Route description
All of State Route 238 is located in the eastern portion of Fayette County. State Route 238 is not included as a part of the National Highway System.[2]
The short journey of State Route 238 commences at the rural Union Township intersection of the duplex of U.S. Route 62 and State Route 3 and Old Springfield Road. Heading northwest from there, the two-lane state highway travels amidst a vastness of farmland, while going by a couple of homes along the way. After crossing a set of railroad tracks, State Route 238 enters into Bloomingburg. With the Bloomingburg Cemetery abutting the west side of the highway, State Route 238, which is now known as Main Street, passes a business and some residences prior to coming to an end at its junction with State Route 38 at a four-way stop intersection in the village's downtown area.[3]
History
State Route 238 made its debut in 1924 along the routing that it currently occupies near Bloomingburg. The highway has not experienced any significant changes since first being designated.[4][5]
