Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre , which has seen over 500,000 visitors since it opened in 2005. Originally promised by his predecessor Bob Cross, there have been some doubts expressed by one local media outlet, namely the editorial board of a weekly publicationMonday Magazine . During construction on the arena, there was some controversy related to the fact that the project was a partnership with a private sector contractor, in addition to some construction delays.Alan Lowe won re-election in the 2005 elections. He faced Ben Isitt again, and defeated him by 1,400 votes.
The December 5, 2007 edition of the
Victoria Times Colonist newspaper ran a front page story on Mayor Lowe. Lowe stated that he would like to spend more time with his family, friends, other interests and will not seek re-election after his current term expires. He has served on Victoria City Council for 15 years as a Councilor and Mayor. Mayor Lowe remains quiet about any possible transition to BC Provincial or Canada Federal politics.
