Morris Fuller Benton for theAmerican Type Founders (ATF) in 1930. The typeface is an exploration of geometric forms, and is contemporary with the rectilinear slab serif typeface City by Georg Trump. The typeface also bears comparison with late nineteenth century engraving faces.In 1980s, Linotype created a digital version that includes small caps characters to map onto the lowercase keys of the keyboard. At the time, Linotype only digitized the medium weight of the family, and no PostScript version has been made.
Bank Gothic AS
In 2003 letterforms artist [http://MichaelDoret.com Michael Doret] began work on a version of Bank Gothic with a set of newly devised lowercase characters in both regular and condensed versions. The Bank Gothic AS Family released in OpenType format by [http://www.michaeldoret.com/AlphabetSoup/soup.html Alphabet Soup Type Founders] also contains the traditional shortcaps.
Morris Sans
In 2005, Linotype editor Dan Reynolds began work on the Morris Sans family, a revised and extended Bank Gothic. The revised design includes lowercase letters, and redesigned letters %,
‰ ,Ø ,§ ,ƒ ,Ç .The font family comes in 3 weights and 2 widths. OpenType features include small caps, old style figures, proportional lining figures. It supporting ISO Adobe 2, Adobe CE, Latin extended Character sets.
Popular use
Bank Gothic is a commercial hit Fact|date=September 2008 in the
science fiction genre as demonstrated by its frequent use in the "Matrix" movie series and "The Day After Tomorrow ". The typeface is used in the closing credits for the "reimagined" "Battlestar Galactica" TV series. It is also used in the program "24" and in the video game "Goldeneye 007 ". "30 Seconds to Mars " uses the font in its logo. The font is also used on all the computers in the TV series "Stargate SG-1 " and on the video games ', "FreeSpace 2 ", ', and more recently the movie "Hancock", for its posters and its advertising.This typeface was used in the game "Hitman: Contracts" and was on the book's cover of "WarCraft"'s first series. It was also used in the British television programme "Robot Wars". The typeface was used extensively in packaging and advertising of Bungie's "Marathon" series, and entire manuals were laid out in Bank Gothic. It is also used for the titles of cult comedy programme "
Spaced ".Contrary to common belief, Bank Gothic is not the typeface used on signage at Dulles Airport. The font used on informational signs at the Washington hub for United Airlines is an unnamed font originally crafted by the airport's architect, Eero Saarinen.
