Print Buyer

An occupation in which a person buys printing for a larger entity, usually a publisher, ad agency or any large corporation which uses large amounts of printed material.

The skills of the profession usually are knowledge of printing methods, paper selection and negotiating.

A company will pay a print buyer from $35,000 to $55,000 per year, so the buyer must be able to save at least that amount plus benefits costs to be worthwhile to the company. Usually a print budget of at least $1,000,000 is necessary to make a print buyer position worthwhile.

Many times a print buyer will be the liaison between the outside print companies and an internal creative department.
