Novar is a manufacturer of building automation systems for HVAC equipment. Novar enjoys a very strong market share in the box-retail market as a low-cost controller with minimum functionality. Novar's new OPUS line of controllers, launched in January of 2010, highlights Novar's movement into refrigeration control, a space they have typically avoided due to its complex and high-risk nature. They also offer monitoring services to notify customers of comfort and HVAC issues.
Novar Controls became part of Honeywell International in 2005 when its parent company Novar plc was acquired. In North America, Novar is divided into two groups. The first is Novar, whose entire focus is on multi-site organizations, customers include Staples, Gordmans, Toys R Us and others. Wal-Mart's patronage comprises such a large amount of Novar's business that a separate office for just Wal-Mart support is located at Wal-Mart's headquarters in Bentonville, AR. Then there are the independent Novar Technology Centers. This group is now transitioning to the Trend name, which has historically been strong in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.
