This article is about folds in rock layers. For deposits of sediment across the earth's surface, see Chevron (land form).
A chevron in geology refers to a chevron-shaped fold in stratum layers. Chevron folds are generally close to tight (interlimb angles 70 to 10 degrees) with straight limbs and small angular hinges. They typically form in multilayers, consisting of regular alternations of beds with contrasting mechanical properties e.g. sandstones and mudstones.
