Ponta Delgada (district)

The Distrito da Ponta Delgada was a district of Portugal that existed until 1976 when it was abolished and taken off the map after the Portuguese constitution was reformed in August, 1975. The district covered about 800 km² of the eastern portion of the Azores Islands. Its capital was Ponta Delgada. The district was the most populated in the Azores. The district formerly included the Formigas, Santa Maria and São Miguel islands.

The present administration is under the island name since 1976.
