Cluedo chronology

In recent years, Hasbro has released a whole line of Cluedo-based boardgames. They each include a storyline that connects them with the other games in chronological order. The games included in this chronology are Cluedo, Cluedo SFX, Cluedo Mysteries, and the Cluedo DVD Game. Hasbro has included character biographies and event history on their website and in the games, adding to the history of the Cluedo suspects and victims.

The chronology provided through the more recent versions of Clue/Cluedo is not the only version of the back story provided to the Clue/Cluedo characters. The 1988 Master Detective version of Clue also provided personal biographies for the 10 characters in that game. To some extent, these biographies mimicked the personal stories and traits found in the two VCR games that were released in the mid-1980s. The VCR games included the same 10 characters as Clue Master Detective.

Date chronology

• The game of Cluedo Mysteries is based around 50 mysteries (petty crimes mostly) between June 1, 1925 and August 7, 1925.
• The game of Cluedo SFX is based on the murder of Mr. Miles Meadow-Brook on August 8, 1925.
• The Cluedo DVD Game is based on 10 robberies between September 1925 and May 1926.
• The game of Cluedo is based on the murder of Dr. Black/Mr. Boddy on June 5, 1926.

• July 16, 1901: Miss Josephine Scarlett is born in Cambridge, England to James and Patricia.
• 1903: Mr. Scarlett dies after falling down the stairs of his country house; Mr. White dies suddenly after a birthday dinner cooked by his wife.
• 1904: Samuel and Margaret Boddy disappear while in Egypt; John Boddy, 8, is sent to live with his uncle, Sir Hugh; Mrs. White becomes his nanny.
• 1910: Patricia Gobelin marries Ernest Zaffer.
• 1911: Ernest Zaffer falls from a hotel balcony in Italy and dies.
• 1914: Sir Hugh Black, 50, drowns while on a fishing trip in Scotland; Michael Mustard promoted to Colonel; Patricia Zaffer meets Sir Matthew Peacock.
• 1915: Patricia Zaffer marries Sir Matthew Peacock.
• 1917: Sir Matthew Peacock drowned in the Lake District while aqua boarding.
• 1923: Professor Plum is employed by the British Museum; he is accused of plagiarism and fired.

Lord Gray's sketches are switched for a presentation for the Earl of Nottingham.

Mrs. Peacock and Colonel Mustard's second date is sabotaged.

Dr. Black is unwilling to fund Professor Plum's expedition to find the secret tomb; Plum receives letters by someone claiming to have information.

Professor Plum points out that one of Dr. Black's Gainsboroughs is a fake.

• 49: The Good Gossip (Thurs., August 6)

Mrs. Meadow-Brook hears that Mr. Meadow-Brook is being sued by Dr. Black. It is a rumor spread by Mrs. Peacock.

• 50: The Petty Payback (Fri., August 7)

Some papers about Sir Hugh's will are stolen from Mr. Meadow-Brook's safe in his office.

Cluedo SFX

• The murder of Mr. Meadow-Brook occurs on Saturday, August 8, 1925. During a garden party at Tudor Mansion, he is found dead in the gardens. There are eight suspects, six possible weapons, and ten possible crime scenes. Inspector Brown is called in to investigate. Amateur detectives Miss Peach, Lady Lavender, Prince Azure, and Lord Gray assist. The murderer is apparently not tried as all of the suspects return for later games.

Before the Cluedo DVD Game

• Following the death of Mr. Meadow-Brook, Dr. Black goes on a several week-long vacation to the Mediterranean. He returns in the first mystery of the Cluedo DVD Game (the Monte Carlo Affair).

Cluedo DVD Game

There are ten mysteries of theft. They are:

• Mystery One: The Monte Carlo Affair occurs around September 1925. Inspector Brown's introduction says: "After the death of Dr. Black's lawyer, Miles Meadow-Brook, Dr. Black took several weeks off ...." This puts the date around early September, depending on the definition of several.
• Mystery Two: The Garden Party occurs around late summer 1925. Inspector Brown's introduction says that the invitation read: "Come enjoy the last of the summer sun."
• Mystery Three: A Bad Sport occurs around late summer 1925. The investigation takes place the following day.
• Mystery Four: The Hunt occurs sometime in autumn 1925, and it was an annual tradition at Tudor Mansion. It was probably a fox hunt, popular amongst the upper class in England.
• Mystery Five: The Autumn Leaves occurs sometime in autumn 1925, after the Hunt.
• Mystery Six: The Costume Party occurs sometime between December 1925 and February 1926. There is snow, so it is probably early in winter, considering English winters.
• Mystery Seven: Spring Cleaning occurs sometime in early spring 1926.
• Mystery Eight: A Princess is Born occurs on or shortly after April 21, 1926. Inspector Brown's introduction says that "Dr. Black invited all his friends to be with him to commemorate the birth of the first grandchild of the king, the Princess Elizabeth, who arrived in England on April the twenty-first, 1926." Princess Elizabeth is more commonly known by her title today, Queen Elizabeth II.
• Mystery Nine: A Grand Ball occurs sometime after April 21 and before late May 1926.
• Mystery Ten: The Last Straw occurs in late May 1926. Inspector Brown's introduction says: "One week shy of Dr. Black's thirtieth birthday, the day he comes into his full inheritance, Black arranged with some of his friends to discuss private business matters." It was on this day that he supposedly made it known that he would cut off his late uncle's associates. However, Dr. Black's birthday is given as June 18 - more than one week from even the last day in May. It could be one week shy of Dr. Black's murder, but not his birthday.

Cluedo

• The murder of Dr. Black/Mr.Boddy occurs on Saturday, June 5, 1926. Dr. Black/Mr.Boddy, weeks from his 30th birthday, is found murdered at Tudor Mansion. There are six suspects, six possible weapons, and nine possible crime scenes. Inspector Brown is called in to investigate the crime.^{[citation needed]}

Clue Master Detective/VCR games

• Clue Master Detective and the VCR games, "Clue," and "Clue: Murder in Disguise" involved the standard, original six characters as well as four new ones: M. Brunette, Mme. Rose, Sgt. Gray, and Miss Peach.
