George Kanahele

George Hueu Sanford Kanahele (1930 - 15 September 2000) was a Hawaiian activist and historian and founder of the Native Hawaiian Tourism and Hospitality Association. Despite being a valuable part of the Hawaiian activism movement, some of his ideas are controversial, such as his argument that native Hawaiians should embrace Hawaiokinai's tourism by helping the visitor industry revive a "Hawaiian sense of place" in visitor destinations such as Waikiki.Fact|date=August 2007 Kanahele graduated from Kamehameha Schools, Brigham Young University Hawaiokinai, and Cornell University.cite web |url= http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/150/sesq6kanahele |title= George Kanahele |author= Michael Tsai |work= The Honolulu Advertiser |date= 2 July 2006 |quote= ] He published several books during his life relating to Hawaiian culture and history.cite web |url= http://starbulletin.com/2000/09/16/news/story10.html |title= Historian Kanahele, 69, leaves legacy in Waikiki |author= Pat Omandam |work= Honolulu Star-Bulletin |date= 16 September 2000 |quote= ]
