- Tropism (noise band)
Tropism is a Canadian harsh noise
music ensembleband founded by "Tnon" and "Pleb" in 1994 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.Although not official members, Rich Oddie and Christina Sealey of the industrial band Orphx were important early contributors. As of 2006, there are over 200 Tropism "releases" which can be divided into three periods: early (1994-1995), middle (1996-1999), and current (2000-present). These releases explore all type of harsh noise, experimental, ambient, electronic and metal genres.Material created during the "early period" was collaboratively recorded on cassettes and were frequently compiled into series, notably the ten cassette release "Mantissa." Several Tropism releases during this period were live recordings of an interior space with people using a variety of different instruments to create a spontaneous cacophony of sound.
The "middle period" involved re-working older material and re-mastering it for release on compact disc. During this period, the first collection of Tropism material was released entitled "Greatest Hits (Worst Misses)." The most recent Tropism releases in the "current period" are recorded and produced by Tnon with guest contributors, notablyvocalist "Henn."
