The academy was founded in
1869 by theSisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth , and named forSt. Vincent de Paul . Saint Vincent Academy currently holds the distinction of being the only private high school for women in the city of Newark. The current administrative team consists of Sister June Favata, S.C., Sr. Margaret Killough, S.C., and Ms. Mary F. Nolan. This school has one of the highest graduation rates of other schools in Newark and Essex County. Its strategic programs such as the Freshwomen program and the Students in Community Program make it a true diamond in the rough. The girls who go there form strong bonds with their sisters and are able to reach out and help other people in their communities.
