Dick Howser Trophy

Dick Howser Trophy

The Dick Howser Trophy, considered to be the Heisman Trophy of college baseball,[1] is an award presented annually to the national college baseball player of the year, presented by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).[2]

The award is named after Dick Howser, a collegiate and major-league player and manager, who managed the Florida State Seminoles, New York Yankees and the World Series Champion Kansas City Royals. He died of cancer in 1987 at the age of 51.

The award was created in 1987. The winners from 1987 to 1998 were selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)[3] In 1999, the NCBWA became the voting body and now presents the award together with the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.
