The University of Hawai`i-West O`ahu, is a public university and one of ten branches of the University of Hawaii system. Currently located in Pearl City, Hawaii, it is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and opened in January 1976. As a four-year institution, UH West O`ahu offers baccalaureate degrees in liberal arts and professional studies. Academic programs stress the exploration of interdisciplinary studies, cross-cultural and international studies and communication skills.
A brand new, state-of-the-art UH West O`ahu campus, to be located in Kapolei, Hawaii, is scheduled for completion in Spring 2010.
Academics
Bachelor of Arts degrees are offered in Accounting, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Economics, English, General Business Administration, General Public Administration, Hawaiian-Pacific Studies, Health Care Administration, History, Justice Administration, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. The university also offers a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education as well as Bachelor of Applied Science in Respiratory Care.
Certificate programs are offered in Applied Forensic Anthropology, Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management, Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies, Health Care Administration and Substance Abuse & Addictions Studies.
The university offers select baccalaureate degrees through distance learning programs in collaboration with University and Education Centers located on every Hawaiian island.
