Chatfield Senior High is a high school located in an unincorporated area of Jefferson County near Littleton, Colorado. It is part of the Jefferson County Public Schools system.

Chatfield Senior High School opened in the fall of 1985; there was no senior class its first year. The school's first graduating class was the class of 1987. During reconstruction on Columbine High School after the Columbine High School massacre, students from Columbine High School attended classes at Chatfield.

Athletics

Chatfield's athletic rival is Columbine. Chatfield is notable as the alma mater of Katie Hnida, a female American football kicker who played at the University of Colorado at Boulder and later at the University of New Mexico. Hnida was the principal kicker for Chatfield's football team during her senior year.Chatfield has also produced well-known athletes such as LenDale White, and Chris Crosby and [http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=4&SPID=22&DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=1064946&Q_SEASON=2007/ Robbie McEwen] and Zac Robinson. Chatfield's football team in 2001, led by Coach Dave Logan, defensive tackle [http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=4&SPID=22&DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=1064946&Q_SEASON=2007/ Robbie McEwen] , and running back LenDale White won the State Championship. In 2001 Chatfield's football team was undefeated and nationally ranked. Chatfield's Marching Band is among the top in state each year, having placed 4th in 2000, 7th in 2005, 10th in 2006, and 6th in the 2007 competition; despite Finals being cancelled after semis. Chatfield's Poms Squad also took 1st in league for the 2006-2007 year as well as 3rd at the NDA nationals in Florida.

History

On November 8th, 2007, Chatfield went into a lockdown situation from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Some students at a nearby establishment were shooting an unidentified weapon randomly, and the establishment called the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Soon after, the students fled back to the school where police surrounded them and took them into custody. The students were later released as they did not cause harm to any other person(s).¹

Fundraising

During the middle of each November, Chatfield holds a dodgeball tournament to help raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (Memphis, Tennessee), which is organized by Chemistry instructor, Mr. Addison. As well, Chatfield holds numerous annual fundraising events including those for HIV/AIDS in Africa, Hurricane Relief, and US Army support.
