Arizona's congressional districts

Arizona's congressional districts

The U.S. state of Arizona currently has eight congressional districts. In the 110th Congress, the 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th congressional districts have Democratic representatives, while the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th congressional districts are represented by Republicans.

Districts 1 and 2 are located in sparsely populated rural areas of the state, while districts 3, 4, 5 and 6 are clustered around Arizona's main population center of Phoenix and its suburbs. Districts 7 and 8 comprise large swaths of rural southern Arizona and the Tucson metropolitan area.

History

From 1863-1912, Arizona Territory sent one non-voting delegate to the House of Representatives. After its statehood in 1912, Arizona was granted one representative in the House. As the state's population has grown, Arizona's delegation has increased in size to its current total of eight representatives.
