John Berardi

Dr. John M. Berardi, Ph.D., C.S.C.S. is a kinesiologist and professional health and performance consultant. He is known for his work with professional athletes, and writings on topics relating to physical fitness. Some of his written works have been scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals; others have been written for the layperson or fitness enthusiast and distributed on the Internet.

Dr. Berardi operates professionally through the company he co-founded, Science Link, Inc. Personal life

Dr. Berardi, the son of Italian immigrants Sam and Marie Berardi, was born on July 18, 1974 in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. He attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School, Lansdale Catholic High School, and North Penn High School. After grade 12, Dr. Berardi worked for 2 years in the family restaurant (The Bread Crumb; Doylestown, PA), while attending classes at Montgomery County Community college and training for the 1995 NABBA Mr. Jr USA Bodybuilding Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada. After winning the Jr. Division of the Mr. USA contest, Berardi left the Lansdale area to complete his undergraduate education in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. Several academically-related moves brought Dr. Berardi to Austin, Texas in 2005. He currently splits his time between Austin, Texas and Toronto, Ontario.

Education

Dr. Berardi attended Lock Haven University from 1995-1997, where he studied Health Science, Philosophy, and Psychology, earning his B.Sc. in Health Science.

After his undergraduate studies were completed, Dr. Berardi moved to Pittsburgh to study under Dr. Thomas Kamark at the Behavioral Medicine Research Lab of the University of Pittsburgh. He was involved in Dr. Kamark’s research into the behavioral and physiological correlates with cardiovascular disease, titled the [http://www.pitt.edu/~kamarck/phhp.htm Pittsburgh Healthy Heart Project] .

In 1999, Dr. Berardi began his Master's studies in Exercise Physiology at Eastern Michigan University. While working on his Master's degree, Dr. Berardi was the first recipient of the Pinnacle/Bodyonics Sports Nutrition Scholarship and also was awarded external research grants from LPJ, Inc. and Nutritech to complete his Master's research.

In 2000, after 1 year as a Master's student, Dr. Berardi was invited to "fast track" into the Kinesiology doctoral program at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario Canada.

Around this time, Dr. Berardi earned his strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

From 2000—2005, Berardi studied with exercise researcher Dr. Peter Lemon, earning his PhD in Kinesiology with a specialization in Exercise and Nutritional Biochemistry. In addition to his work at UWO, throughout this time, Dr. Berardi worked extensively with the Yale University School of Medicine’s Department of Diagnostic Radiology.

Currently, Dr. Berardi is a Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
