Lay Gayint (Amharic "Upper Gayint") is one of the 105
woreda s in theAmhara Region ofEthiopia . Part of theDebub Gondar Zone , Lay Gayint is bordered on the south byTach Gayint , on the southwest by Este, on the west byFarta , on the north by Ebenat, and on the east by theWag Hemra Zone . Towns in Lay Gayint includeGobgob ,Nefas Mewcha andSali .Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 230,218, of whom 114,487 were males and 115,731 were females; 23,497 or 10.21% of its population are urban dwellers, which is greater than the Zone average of 8.3%. With an estimated area of 1,253.13 square kilometers, Lay Gayint has an estimated population density of 183.7 people per square kilometer, which is greater than the Zone average of 169.21.
