Orestes (name)

Orestes (Ορεστης) is a Greek name, meaning "he who stands on the mountain", or "one who can conquer mountains".

In Greek Mythology, he is the son of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon. He had two sisters, Electra and Iphigenia. Although Orestes led a noble life, he is infamous for avenging the murder of his father by killing his mother Clytemnestra, as well as her lover Aegisthus.

Atilla the Hun was known to have an honorable and loyal general named Orestes. He was considered in history to be a best friend of Atilla, and important advisor.
