London, EnglandYears active 1986-present Charlie Lomax David Condou (born 8 January 1973) is an English actor and Guardian columnist [1] who is best known for his role as as Marcus Dent in the British soap opera, Coronation Street.
In 2005 he appeared as Jonatton Yeah? in Nathan Barley and, a year later, as Renoir in the BBC drama The Impressionists. Other television and film roles included Nino in Gimme, Gimme, Gimme with Kathy Burke, and Dead Babies alongside Paul Bettany, Olivia Williams and Kris Marshall. He appeared in Fred Claus with Vince Vaughn and Kevin Spacey in 2007, before joining Coronation Street, in the summer of 2007. In the same year he appeared in the film Good starring Viggo Mortensen and Jason Isaacs. In 2008 his contract with Coronation Street came to an end by mutual agreement. Speaking of his departure Condou said: "I have had a fantastic time in Coronation Street, but as a jobbing actor I believe it is time to move on. There are a few things in the pipeline, one of which is a feature film which is being made abroad. But all that's under wraps at the moment." A Corrie spokeswoman said : "We'll be sad to see Charlie leave. The decision was a mutual one."[2]
March 2011 saw Condou's return to Coronation Street after an absence of almost three years. It has been widely reported that Coronation Street is to have its first gay wedding when male midwife Marcus Dent ties the knot with former flame Sean Tully.[3]
Condou lives in Islington with his Canadian boyfriend of six years, Dr Cameron Laux[4] and his daughter, Georgia, who spends half her time with the couple and half with her mother, actress Catherine Kanter. In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, Condou revealed that Georgia Mae was conceived through IVF treatment, following Kanter's 40th birthday and relationship breakup.[5] He now writes a popular column for the Guardian on the subject of same-sex parenting [6]
In his youth Condou lived with Robbie Williams.[7][8] He is godfather to Stellan, son of Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly and to Milo, son of actress Amanda Mealing and her husband Richard Sainsbury.
